SEPARATED, BUT NOT OUT OF THE FIGHT.

Gaby has been captured by a familiar figure from her past. Some might take captivity lying down, but they aren’t Gaby.

Will and Danny are close on Gaby’s trail, but their rescue mission is detoured in a city under siege by a very dangerous new breed of ghouls. The reunited ex-Army Rangers will face their toughest fight yet if they want to get out alive.

Back on Song Island, Lara prepares for an impending attack. She receives unexpected assistance from a man named Keo, an ex-mercenary with his own agenda.

Meanwhile, the survivors’ radio broadcast has elicited surprising responses from around the globe. It might be the start of a resistance against the ghoul domination…if Lara can keep everyone alive long enough.

Where The Purge begins, the Gates hold, and the Stones crumble, the Fires will burn…

The Fires of Atlantis Purge of Babylon Book 4 eBook Sam Sisavath

Like the previous three Babylon novels, the Fires of Atlantis has twists and turns you won't see coming that leave you thinking about the novel well into the night (if you don't finish it in one sitting, that is). We're learning more and more about the creatures and their overall plans for the planet, including some things they're evolving with that are truly terrifying.

I loved the action-packed pages and the edge-of-your-seat plot line that I've come to expect from Sisavath. In fact, I re-read the first three novels again before jumping into Atlantis so I could completely submerge in Sisavath's created world. I might not should have done that, because the small issues I began noticing in the first couple of books kind of came to a head in Atlantis and a whole new one opened up.

First, for the love of God please stop using the same lines for everyone. I can promise you that not every single person will say "tough girl" or "she's stronger than I thought." There are other ways you could get across those same thoughts without repeating the exact same wording. It got to the point that every time I saw those words I rolled my eyes. It always took me out of the story and had my thoughts drifting, which is never something you want to happen to a reader. This happened on numerous occasions and with a few other parts, but this was the biggest (and the most long-lived since it's happened in all four books)

The other really major issue I had was Keo. At first, I kept waiting for an explanation of his history, including at least a small paragraph explaining his time running in the woods from men, why he has the scar and who Gillian was to him, as in how they met and how they were separated. I got none of that, at all. I go online and find out Keo is the one represented in the "other" Babylon novels. I had, of course, seen notes of those books before but from the wording, I thought they were either small stories included while readers waited for the next main novel or they were books written during the same time period but completely separate from the Babylon series. Because I loved Will and Lara and everyone so much, I decided I didn't want to read the Lemuria novels and hadn't, until I read Atlantis and was forced to in order to have some answers.

So you see, because it always read like the Lemuria novels were just a bit extra, I was completely surprised to find out they were actually necessary to read in order to know Keo's background before he pops into the Babylon series. And he's a pretty main character, too, who will obviously at least be in the beginning of the fifth novel. For this reason, Sisavath should have written at the beginning of this book, or at least somewhere in the description of Keo's novel or Atlantis, that to understand who Keo was the reader needed to also read two other books. I would have excitedly wanted to know more if Sisavath had given me a paragraph of background on Keo and immediately purchased those novels but as it was, I felt I was reading them because I had to and it tainted the experience.

This isn't fully the writer's fault, though. He's deep into this world now, churning out these novels inhumanly fast (for which your readers thank you!) and I am sure it was a case of him not putting himself in the reader's shoes, a complete slip of the mind since he knew Keo and knew his background. Either that or he assumed all of us were reading both stories. It truly is the fault of his editors for not noticing this huge mistake and fixing it. After all, focusing on what one doesn't know about a character, especially something that comes up so often in Keo's POV sections, is distracting from the novel itself.

Also of note, Keo being half Korean would mean, for most people, that they would take his name as a family one or something from Korea. It is no longer humorous for a running joke to be "What kind of name is Keo?" when it comes up with every single person he meets. It just wouldn't happen. I completely believe some people would ask, but for me, even before someone asked the question, it never crossed my mind at all. Weirdly, I can believe in the creatures, but parts like this are completely unbelievable and, again, take me out of the story. Editors, step it up.

The Fires of Atlantis Purge of Babylon Book 4 eBook Sam Sisavath Reviews

Oh. My. God. This book was fantastic!! I loved it there was so much going on and I felt like I was on the edge of my seat the whole time reading this. I do recommend that before you read this latest installment that you read The Walls of Lemuria and The Fields of Lemuria first. Those are both Keo's journey and the Walls begins on the night of The Purge and takes us up (timeline wise) to this book. If you really want to read The Fires first I get that but I don't think you would really understand what drives Keo if you don't have his story before this book. One of my standout characters from this book was Gaby. She has come a long way from that girl in the basement who gave Josh the gun simply because he's a boy. She is a true fighter and at times she surprises even herself. I loved watching her fight to survive and put that training Will and Danny gave her to good use. She even picks up a young protege Claire who is an awesome character and I can't wait to see more of this girl. My absolute favorite thing about reading these books is that I can not predict where Sam Sisavath is going to take us next. If you are fans of this series you will love reading The Fires of Atlantis.
Wow!!! These books just keep getting better and better. I can't get enough of them and I'm dying for the next one. I love the characters in all the books, and am so happy Keo appeared in this one after reading the two Lemuria books. I'm so attached to all these characters and I love how the author writes them in a way that you feel you know them and love them. The author pulls all my emotions out, laughing (specifically at the dialog between Will and Danny - LOVE Danny), crying, anxious, excited, angry... I was so involved in reading this book, I would skip sleeping, working, and cleaning the house. Everything went on hold until I could finish it. The only negative experience is now I have to wait a while for book 5, which you can bet, I will be keeping an eye out for it, checking the Road to Babylon blog, and then pre-ordering it again when it is available. On one hand, I'd like to see how this series ends, but on the other, I don't ever want to stop reading about these guys. This is seriously my favorite series of books I've ever read. I hope the author continues to write more, even outside of this series, because he has a real knack for it. The way he writes is extraordinary and it's well edited so that it doesn't deter you from the flow of what you are reading. I've always wanted to write, but I don't have the ability to write like this, so I will just continue to enjoy reading these books. I've hooked many others on these books so the following will continue to grow!
Well, that's it for me, I'm not reading any of the others. When I completed this book I actually went to go buy the next one but read reviews here first and I'm glad I did because the ending of book 5 was spoiled and I was told how little the story actually advanced. Which made me realize how little actually happened in this book. It just dragged on and on to a point where I thought for sure something has to happen, and it does, but its the same thing that has happened a million other times. Do you yourself a favor and don't waste money on this book because you can literally read the description of book 5 and thats all you need to know about what happened in 4. Don't read book 5 either just read the other 1 star reviews and find out the "ending" then don't bother with 6 because its more of Sam Sisaveth fantasizing about being in the books himself under the alias Keo. Then when book 7 comes out wait until some other suckers spend money on it and then they will tell you if its worth your time. Remember always check the 1 star reviews, they tell the truth.
